FAQs
How does Invisalign move teeth?
How often should aligners be changed?
How do I clean my aligners?
Clean your Invisalign aligners with a soft toothbrush and mild toothpaste under luke warm running water. Rinse thoroughly after. Aligners should be cleaned twice daily: every time you brush your teeth, you should brush your aligners.
What can I drink while wearing my Invisalign aligners?
You should only drink water that is not hot while wearing your aligners. Any other drinks should be avoided as they can cause staining or damage to the aligners and/or your teeth.
Does Invisalign hurt?
Any kind of tooth movement will involve some tenderness of the teeth. When it comes to Invisalign aligners, you’ll feel some pressure and sometimes some tenderness in the first few days of having a new aligner. If your teeth are feeling tender or your new aligner is feeling quite tight, eating soft foods for a few days will be more confortable until your teeth settle. Overall, most patients find Invisalign aligners to be more comfortable that traditional braces.
Can elastics be used with invisalign?
Yes, elastics can still be used with Invisalign aligners. Elastics allow your orthodontist to help position your jaws into the correct alignment. They attach from the upper aligner onto the lower aligner or with a discreet button that can be temporarily bonded to your tooth.
How long does Invisalign take to straighten my teeth?
Depending on the amount of movement your teeth require and the desired outcome, treatment time usually averages between 18 – 24 months although this varies from patient to patient. At your consultation appointment, your orthodontist will be able to provide you with an estimated time frame for your Invisalign treatment.
